Bucket anaology
When it comes to the different loads we put on our body I like to think of a bucket. If you put too much in your bucket, it is going to overflow - think wheels falling off, meltdown, feeling stressed, overwhelmed, ill health and so on. Be mindful of the things you are putting in your bucket, and making sure you take time to take some out of your bucket too, to keep you balanced.
20 Things that fill the bucket (to name but a few...)
Change of routine. Too much excitement. Toxins. Poor eating. Lack of sleep. Lack of or excess exercise. Caffeine. Alcohol. Fear. Lack of relaxation. Financial stress. Emotional stress. Lack of alone time. Over exertion. Negative attitude. All work and no play. Physical pain. Hunger. Being too hot or too cold.
Things that fill the bucket are basically things that elicit a 'fight or flight' response, that release cortisol (the stress hormone). You don't have to feel 'stressed' necessarily but need to be aware that things as seemingly harmless as a four hour road trip with the husband and kids, can be a fight or flight situation for your body - or even just thinking about it!
Things that bring about bucket balance!
Rest. Good sleep. Primal foods. Play. Exercise. A good laugh. Massage. A swim in the ocean. Barefoot walking (earthing). Spending time in green space. A nap. A good book. Meditation. Breathing. Quality air and water. Positive attitude. Enjoyment. Healthy relationships (wink wink nudge nudge). Nutritional supplements (such as adaptagen herbs and magnesium).
This is an exhaustless list, you can add your own ideas to it, anything that brings about a 'rest and digest' response from the body and brings about good feeling and relaxation will help you maintain bucket equilibrium. The Primal Blueprint and The Primal Connection covers everything you need to achieve this.
